The Elementary School (Obecná škola, 1991) is a Czechoslovak comedy movie directed by Jan Svěrák (Kolja, Jízda). The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1991 and is considered to belong among the best Czechoslovak films ever. The film is set shortly after the World War II. Eda and his friend Tonda attend a class so undisciplined that their teacher quits and is replaced by the rather militant Igor Hnidzo, apparently a war hero. Will he tame the class? And what about his biggest weakness - interest in women, mostly pupils' mothers?
