The Rebels (Rebelové, 2001)
Music, dancing, young love and some legendary oldies hit songs – The Rebels is a retro movie faithfully recreating the enchanting atmosphere of the 1960s. The decade full of expectations and hopes for freedom and better life – even in troubled Czechoslovakia, trying to loosen the grip of its communist rule. Sometimes labelled as the Czech equivalent of the western hit “Grease”, the film follows romantic escapades of a group of youngsters who are about to graduate from their small-town high school. Yet when three young strangers arrive in the town, the local girls are ready to fall head over heels for them. But the newcomers bring more than just fresh romantic intrigue, as an air of mystery surrounds them – a mystery which will change everyone’s lives forever.
